Lima, "The City of Kings", in the past the centre of the Spanish Empire in the New World and nowadays the Capital of Peru, is one of the most important cities in South America and the starting point for tourist programs in Peru. UNESCO has declared it a Cultural Patrimony of Humanity.
Lima shows the legacy in art and architecture from the Colonial and Republican periods with much pride, whilst its museums exhibit and preserve golden artifacts, pottery vessels and textiles from pre-Inca and Inca Cultures.
Lima is a metropolis with luxurious hotels located in the Districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, beautiful mansions and parks, cafes and restaurants, theatres and a pretty shaky nightlife. It has modern shopping malls, boutiques and handicraft shops full of silver and gold jewellery, furs, ceramics, textiles made of alpaca wool, cotton and vicuña wool, offered at amazingly cheap prices that turn shopping in Lima into a worthwhile activity.
